I accept my on death and welcome it when my time comes. I speak to my family members about death quite openly. I have never understood clearly why other people hesitate to deal with it. We are always at deaths door. An accident, murder, act of violence, sudden illness, etc. could take any of us at any time. Since I don't understand the apprehension to discuss or even think about death it has become one of those things, I bug people about. Here is a little of what I've been able to come up with:

1) Some religious people do not feel at Peace with God. So, as believers, they are afraid of the consequences of death.

2) Some people believe there is nothing but an end to the stimulations of life and so they want to cling as long as possible to life and not think about the inevitable nothingness that awaits them.

3) Some people don't know and don't care what comes next. They do know that the world that exists before their eyes has been everything that matters, why not keep it running as long as possible, period.

4) Some people are afraid of their own shadows and they can't or don't want to explain why.

I would be interested in other people's insights on this, because I still don't get why people can't deal with the idea of their own death.
