The idea of futility is not hard to fathom.
Neo, several of your posts have mentioned futility and depression. In one of your posts you talked at length about nihilism. I'm starting to get the impression that you consider your pat traditionalist society the only thing between us and darkness and despair.
As far as I am concerned, to dismiss the Designer, when, at least, there is nothing conclusive against the idea, is to embrace a version of nihilism, even if it is benign nihilism. It is to say that man is really nothing but an automaton with an illusion of personhood and free- will, that our most basic emotions, of love, and admiration, and gratitude, of anger, and hatred, and grief, are no more than chemical reactions that have no bearing on the objective nature of any event or thing. At best, then, we can pretend that it all means something, and formulate rules for living, but in our hearts we will know that there is nothing but the random motion of particles in the void. And, I believe, that is ultimately a corrosive thing to have in your heart.......
I don't hold your Faith, but I'm a lot more optimistic than that. There's a big, wide, wonderful world out there.
