FiberCore Announces Expansion of FiberCore Machinery
CHARLTON, Mass., Mar 5, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- FiberCore, Inc. (Nasdaq: FBCE), a leading manufacturer and global supplier of optical fiber and preform for the telecommunication and data communications markets, announced today that FiberCore Machinery GmbH in Jena, Germany, a wholly owned subsidiary of FiberCore Jena GmbH., is currently expanding its capability to design, manufacture, and install specialty equipment used to manufacture optical fiber and performs.
FiberCore Machinery's primary emphasis is to supply preform manufacturing equipment to FiberCore, its subsidiaries and affiliates worldwide. Its current focus is to provide equipment for FiberCore's new facility, which is under construction in Germany, as well as for the expansion of FiberCore's Brazilian operations. It is also anticipated that FiberCore Machinery will be capable of supplying additional facilities planned for the U.S. and Asia Pacific.
Dr. Mohd A. Aslami, President and CEO commented, "There has always been a shortage of the types of specialized equipment required by optical fiber manufacturers, because of the limited number of global suppliers. This is partially attributable to the fiber manufacturers' desire to retain proprietary process information. Becoming more vertically integrated and being able to supply our own equipment needs, as do other major fiber manufacturers, will be a key competitive advantage as we embark on our major capacity expansion plan. We anticipate having enough equipment producing capacity to begin supplying all internal requirements by the end of this year."
FiberCore, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets single-mode and multimode optical fiber preforms and optical fiber for the telecommunications and data communications markets. In addition to its standard multimode and single-mode fiber, FiberCore also offers various grades of fiber for use in laser-based systems, to help guarantee high bandwidths and to suit the needs of Feeder Loop, Fiber-to-the Curb, Fiber-to-the Home and Fiber-to-the Desk applications. Manufacturing facilities are presently located in Jena, Germany and Campinas, Brazil.
