multicollinearity OT Three Mile Island ... At the time of Chernobyl, I was in London, thousands of miles away in a hospital medical physics department. The radiation protection physicists found that the main air conditioning system filters were sufficiently contaminated that they had to be treated as radioactive waste. Iodine absorbed on wind-blown soil particles had been trapped in the filters. Fortunately radioactive iodine decays very rapidly. However, in parts of Wales where there was heavy rainfall (as usual) significant amounts of radioactive Caesium (half life about 20 years) were deposited and there were restrictions on the movement and sale of sheep grazed in those areas for many years.
