My unsubstantiated pet theory -- the story is true and was leaked. Was it leaked to stop the decline of the stock price or was it leaked to stimulate buying so the big boys could sell -- I don't know.

If the deal is a sure thing why wouldn't it be announced until four weeks from now? The only reason I could think of is quiet period before the end of the quarter, but I really don't see why this announcement would be delayed by the quiet period.

My pet theory is that *if* the rumor has any truth to it, it is not a sure thing and it was leaked by one of the parties to put pressure on the other. Alternatively it might have been leaked accidentally by an overly optimistic executive who called it a done deal when in reality it still needs four more weeks of DD and possibly approval from the board (both Walmart's and Amazon's).
