Ian,

While I agree with everything you have said, if one is doing a simple comparison between entering a good till cancelled order to buy and selling a put at the same price plus premium, I still maintain that selling the put is more efficient because of the premium that you get to pocket if your limit isn't touched. You have the same exact opportunity cost of capital in either case.
