The closing Quote is not a real quote as the specialist or MM usually spreads the quote out. Years ago the closing quote really represented the best bid and best offer. When other exchanges trade after the New York markets closed the quote was spread out. Had to do with other exchanges trading against the New York bid and asked.
In one of my current stocks I know their is 80,000 @ 4 but the market shows the closing asked as 4.09. That is just one example where the closing quote is not real. Check any of your stocks and see how the quote is spread out.
