They're discussing supercritical fluids which coincidentally I've been researching in the last few days regarding their use in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

A supercritical fluid is formed when a substance is heated above its critical temperature under pressure and you end up with something that is neither gas nor liquid.

This site has a pressure/temp graph:
nottingham.ac.uk

Some nice piccies of phase changes:
expsep.co.uk

The drug industry is increasingly using scf's like CO2 for solvent extraction and formation of uniform microparticles for improved drug delivery. They're also used for decaffeinating coffee.

cheers,
Davo (who will be supercritical if that perf doesn't happen soon)
