Dear Nadine: The only real power the Pres. has besides the Bully Pulpit is VETO when it comes to the budget. If you have a RASCAL like SLICK who was willing and DID shut down the government, yes, he can effect the budget process BUT a GENTLEMAN such as BUSH would never SHUT DOWN THE GOVT for his OWN POLITICAL REASONS. Now, if bush can effect the budget with his bully pulpit that would indicate the majority of the population APPROVES of his budget plan, in which case congress OUGHT to pass it. Isnt that what Democracy is SUPPOSED to be about, rather then the class warfare political BULLSHIT we have been subjected to in the 8 years of the SLICK DEAL. JDN
