P-cube Aligns With Portal Software to Deliver Capabilities for Next Generation IP-Based Network Services First in Series of P-cube Alliance Announcements SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- P-cube Inc., an industry innovator introducing an IP Service Engineering(TM)* system that will make the Internet a highly profitable business for service providers, today announced an alliance with Cupertino, Calif.-based Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRSF - news), a leading provider of business infrastructure software for broadband, wireless Internet, and next-generation communications services. The alliance, featuring P-cube's Service Engineering Platform and Portal's Infranet® Software, will enable the companies to deliver advanced billing integration to service providers managing next generation IP networks.
``Through alliances like this, we are enabling service providers to fully realize the potential value of broadband to their bottom line and to provision new, emerging capabilities that have not been possible until now,'' said Yuval Shahar, CEO of P-cube. ``By implementing Portal's real-time billing software within P-cube's Service Engineering system, providers have one platform to develop, create, and bill for value-added features that can directly increase revenue.''
P-cube demonstrated its new Service Engineering platform, which included the Portal capabilities, at the March 6 Portal Conference 2001, in San Francisco, Calif. The demonstration illustrated P-cube's product actively managing video streaming and tiered services at three levels of service -- Gold, Silver, and Bronze -- while provisioning individual bandwidth requirements of each customer. Portal's billing software allows broadband providers to generate three different types of bills for each of these levels of service.
``Through this alliance, we are providing a new means of billing, designed to support the new IP service creation and delivery network,'' said John Janetos, director of strategic alliances at Portal Software. ``The Infranet platform combined with P-cube's Service Engineering platform, creates an advanced service delivery and billing foundation on which service providers can innovate new and lucrative revenue streams.''
``Service providers must now develop specialized partnerships to market and deliver high-margin differentiated services to the end user,'' said Todd Hanson, principal analyst for Gartner Dataquest's Networking Telecommunications group. ``Service offerings must be clearly defined, developed, and distributed for ease in subscription and provisioning.''
