FNS:

QCOM just recently announced their MSM 6xxx chip family, which will be a multi-mode chip allowing roaming on all 2G/3G systems including the 3G IMT-2000 standards CDMA200/WCDMA/1xEV, as well as compatibility with existing GSM/GPRS, CDMA (IS 95A/B), and AMPS networks:

QCOM plans to have sample quantities available Q1 of 2002, well ahead of 3G deployment in Euroland. Palm is already selling a GSM "add-on" in Europe for the present wireless networks there. Unfortunately. you need a different add-on for your Palm in the US and Asia. However, a couple of years from now, worldwide wireless roaming with your Palm PDA, cell phone, or combo unit will certainly be possible.
