The invocation of quantum indeterminacy as related to volition is not new. In fact, the Epicureans believed that there was a certain degree of randomness in atoms, and that that permitted free will. Of course, unpredictability is not the same as self- determination, which is another argument.
I am still having some problem seeing quantum mechanics as a key to consciousness, but I suppose you are saying something like it is a possible way of speeding up analog processing. Whether that is enough, again, is another big argument. Interesting idea, though.
Actually, I have already said that there may be other things going on in the universe, but that humanity seemed to be the central thing on this planet. I am not sure that is the same as saying that human- centered activities are all that really matter, but I admit, it is to say they have a higher priority. Since we are social animals, I do not see how we could view it much differently........ |
