YYB I did not think that this thread existed merely to have people respond to other posts or direct posts to a particular user. I normally do not make posts in response to the thread header her but on other areas of SI I have and I don't receive any complaints about it. A post to the thread header is a post to everyone here or as close to it as SI's set up allows. It is perhaps unfortunate that on non-moderated threads it shows up in your in box, but responding to the thread header doesn't mean someone is trying to pester you or even trying to talk specifically to you. SI doesn't have a function to post without it counting as a reply to someone.
