Joe, now I have a dog question for you.

Our Siberian Husky got loose yesterday, almost 24 hours ago.
Emily is beside herself, as "snowy" is her dog. I am becoming less and less optimistic that he will return. We got lots of snow last night, which really does not worry me as far as his warmth, as he is made for this kind of weather. The unfortunate part of that is, being that he is well suited for this weather there is no great "need" for him to return home. My question is.....how do dogs find their way home?? Is it a scent type thing?? And if it is a scent they follow......will that scent trail be lost in the recent 6 inches of snow that fell???
