I disagree with you

Much like Att's purchase of a small stake of Hughes Corp. ATT covered there bases with 5% stake in Hughes with option to purchase up to 30%. They will use their marketing expertise to expand the Direct TV market and cover their butts in case satelites really take off. Leaving Hughes to run the show in this area.

A minority stake would address alot of ATT's problems in ramping up into the internet . There is a big difference in buying a lousy service like InterChange, from Ziff . And buying the biggest online service. Even if it was a bust they would still get the valiable internet backbone AOL has
that in it self is worth 2 billion bucks (using UUNETs buyout as yardstick)

Remember some big boys already own parts of AOL including Apple and BMG. AOL might be out of favor right now with wall street but it is still a force in the online world
