Knowlege implies something learned and or understood. Corn does not have knowledge, neither does my computer's hard drive. They both have information.

Your orignal post that started us down this direction defined inteligence as

1a) The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.

Even if the genetic information contained in corn was knowledge corn would have little capacity ot acquire or apply it. All it does it replicate it for the most part. Occationally the genetic information changes but any individual corn stalk is not going to gain much "knowlege" this way.

Also if we assume that corn has knowledge and applies it and this is a definition if inteligent it isn't the only one.

Main Entry: in.tel.li.gence
Pronunciation: in-'te-l&-j&n(t)s
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin intelligentia,
from intelligent-, intelligens intelligent
Date: 14th century
1 a (1) : the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying
situations : REASON; also : the skilled use of reason (2) : the ability to
apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment or to think abstractly as
measured by objective criteria (as tests) b Christian Science : the basic
eternal quality of divine Mind c : mental acuteness : SHREWDNESS
2 a : an intelligent entity; especially : ANGEL b : intelligent minds or mind
3 : the act of understanding : COMPREHENSION
4 a : INFORMATION, NEWS b : information concerning an enemy or
possible enemy or an area; also : an agency engaged in obtaining such
information
5 : the ability to perform computer functions

By any of these definitions corn and grass have no inteligence, unless the fact that they are trampled provides information about enemy movements and I was not using that definition. I am most concerned about the first 3 but if you find grass or corn that can initate and perform computer functions perhaps I will accept that as well.
