NTAP high speed 2-port serial NAS "One Backup Port". Also, NTAP NAS better than EMC SAN, and NTAP better positioned to enter Open standards OSN for NAS and SAN convergence, and take away market share from EMC. EMC tried without success to enter NTAP's market space. This is the advantage of dominating data and content storage and delivery which NTAP does under NAS, it allows easier intergration into SAN systems, whereas SAN systems like EMC can not go the other direction as easily into NAS. This and as you point out, that NTAP is using its sales force to garner new customers, new market share, rather than babysitting its current clients as EMC does, will create more growth for NTAP. NTAP NAS does ot require as much maintenance and attention or servicing and thus the cost of sales and support staff as does SAN either. That's why EMC has to devote more support staff and can really only grow from its installed customer base, if its customer's grow, when and if they do. Whereas NTAP can go out and grab the market share of new customers that are in a growth technology sector.
Just getting rid of redundant PCs with the one stop one "back up port" gives cost savings to industrial customers, that have and can make use of their existing networks, even ethernet networks, all saving budget dollars in these lean and mean times: bigcharts.com
