Now, if only they could do something about that pesky requirement for faith and belief..
Can't be done.
The "pesky requirement" for faith and belief in something is an essential element of human life. It may be in a divine being, it may be in the abstract concepts of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, it may be that women have the right to control their own bodies (a relatively new faith and belief system in terms of human history), it may be that people have intrinsic worth (also a relatively new faith and belief system). But I have never met, and never expect to meet, a person who does not have some faith and belief which are beyond logical proof but simply have to be taken as matters of pure belief.
It's just that some people call it religion, others call it philosophy, others call it politics, others call it science, and many don't call it anything.
But we all have it. |
