Here's a Reuters article from this morning:

pcfn.com

It says, in a nutshell, that Compaq considers the direct sales model
to be "inefficient" for large corporate accounts.

Compaq's senior vice president of corporate operations and quality
said that "the system is unable to cope with larger customers from the
corporate side," saying also that indirect channels were still needed
to provide service and support such as on-site testing.

You know what this says to me? It says BUY DELL.

Somehow I think Dell will find a way to "cope" with corporate buyers
moving more toward direct sellers to save money. And despite the lack
of "support" offered, Dell consistently gets high marks for its
technical support, and large companies have a staff of system
specialists who can deal with installation problems. And based on the
an article in the Compaq folder
www3.techstocks.com
, it sounds like Compaq doesn't have
this infrastructure completely in place either. Witness its purported
attempt to buy DEC.

Currently a shareholder of both CPQ and DELL, wondering what to do
with future investment capital. Thoughts?
