BenefitPoint's Net-Based Employee Benefits Management Application Is Built On BEA in Just Five Months BEA WebLogic Server Speeds Time to Market for BenefitPoint's Flagship Client Management and Procurement Application Targeted to The Employee Benefits Industry SAN JOSE, Calif., Mar 7, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS chart, msgs), one of the world's leading e-business infrastructure software companies, today announced that BenefitPoint, Inc., has implemented BEA WebLogic(R) Server as the foundation for its flagship Client Management and Procurement application for the employee benefits industry. Employee benefits broker/consultants and insurance carriers use the new Built on BEA(TM) application to procure and manage group insurance and other employee benefits products over the Internet.
BEA WebLogic Server(TM), the market-share leading Java(TM) application server, has played a key role in enabling BenefitPoint to streamline and automate a wide range of benefits tasks -- the types of activities which drive the $600 billion employee benefits industry. With BenefitPoint Client Management and Procurement (CMP), broker/consultants and insurance carriers can efficiently conduct e-commerce transactions over the Internet.
"BenefitPoint is a leader in bringing the benefits industry into the Internet age. The company's powerful suite of applications help eliminate paper-based processes, redundant data entry, and other inefficiencies that escalate costs in the industry, and erode profits for brokers and insurers," said John Kiger, director of product marketing for the BEA E-Commerce Server Division. "We're proud that BenefitPoint has implemented BEA WebLogic Server as the foundation for its innovative Client Management and Procurement application that helps make it possible to more productively manage a major part of the employee benefits lifecycle."
BEA's Industry-Leading Implementation of EJB Standards Accelerates
Application Development Over Time
According to Jim Alexander, BenefitPoint's vice president of development and IT, BEA's industry-leading implementation of Enterprise JavaBeans(TM) (EJBs) and other Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standards was critical in enabling the company to build the Client Management and Procurement application in just five months. "Leveraging BEA's strong EJB implementation, we were able to quickly develop a component-based application with well-defined interfaces that can be easily integrated with other external applications -- such as carrier legacy systems and benefits administration systems," Alexander said.
The superior EJB implementation of BEA WebLogic Server also supports BenefitPoint's strategic goal of faster time to market for new products. "EJBs with well-defined services give us the building blocks for assembling, with increasing speed, new applications that provide richer content and functionality," Alexander said. "This has been key in enabling us to achieve industry leadership by offering more than 9,000 group insurance products from over 500 insurance carriers on our system to date."
Alexander also noted that the BEA Services organization contributed significantly to the success of BenefitPoint's Client Management and Procurement application. After the application was installed, a BEA consultant worked on-site with BenefitPoint to ensure its optimal performance. "A big thumbs-up for BEA Services, whose help in configuring and tuning the application server was an important knowledge transfer and learning exercise for our operations team," Alexander said. |
