i put this here so that you all will help me remember it in case we run into this problem with someone down the line....

Q: Why can't I install Windows 2000 on a disk formatted with Windows
Me?

A: A known problem exists if you format your partitions with a Windows
Millennium Edition (Windows Me) startup disk. Setup fails with the
following error message:

Setup was unable to install Windows Boot Loader. Ensure that your C:
drive is formatted and that the drive is not damaged. Setup cannot
continue. Press ENTER to exit.

To resolve this problem, format the partition with a Windows 98 or
Windows 95 startup disk and rerun Win2K setup.
