You make a good argument for gene banks and some level of habitat preservation. We agree about this although perhaps you would go further then me.

I wasn't opposing these things I was merely opposing unspecified actions that would cost more and/or provide less or less certain benefit. That makes for an obvious question for you to ask (and I'm surprised no one asked it) what specifically am I actually opposing.

I oppose commitments to environmental ideas without considering the cost. After considering the cost I might decide to support the initiative but the money and extra government control have to be considered first. I would oppose an attempt to freeze CO2 production quickly. World wide this could cost trillions and its benefit is still uncertain. I would support more research into global climate change.
