What COULD NASDAQ do?

Persistent rumors, probably more than we know. NASDAQ probably became aware of the fact that the cat got out of the bag.

When contacted, the company said that they would release news after the end of the day.

Had they said "we know of no reason..." they would have had to have re-opened it.

YHOO, IMO, took advantage of the situation. They should have released the news during the day, allowing the stock to continue trading after release.

NASDAQ was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Cat got out of bag. NASDAQ knew it, and asked company. Company confirmed that cat got out of bag, but refused to elaborate on nature of cat in a timely manner.
