OTThe Democrats are this generations version of the 1950 republicans. Michael you just gotta start reading the history books instead of gnawing on the covers and fatasizing the rest. Following is the makeup of the house of Representatives for the 1950's The Democratic leadership was overwhelming. Not so with the Republicans of today. The Democrats of today are not in the Republican position of the 1950's as you claim. 81st Congress..1949-1951 171 Rep. 263 Dems 82nd Congress..1951-1953 199 Rep 234 Dems 83rd Congress 1953-1955 221 Rep.213 Dems 84th Congress 1955-1957 203 Rep.232 Dems 85th Congress 1957-1959 201 Rep. 234 Dems 86th Congress 1959-1961 153 Rep. 283 Dems Eisenhower was president at that time and the standard joke was that he spent for more time golfing that he did at the white house. He was proof that this country didn't need a president. The Senate was also heavily Democratic during these years. The Republicans have a toe hold on leadership in the House of Representatives. But history is an accurate guide in this matter. Give the Republicans a modest lead in anything and they shoot their own legs off. Its tradition, its like success is guaranteed to bring their utter ruin. Ive come to the conclusion that Republicans just can't deal with success, they gotta kill it.
