Albert: I am really confused as the reports of palomino starting at 1.4Ghz. If AMD would switch to Palomino then that would mean that all athlons would be 1.4 and up by the mid of next quarter and that is a bit hard to believe.

iXBT have a fairly good track record when it comes to predictions... (I don't think it's likely that Palomino will be 1.4GHz only, however).

Arguing from the AMDroid perspective: AMD has stated that all Athlons from Fab30 are already >1GHz. Is it so unrealistic that this is increased significantly for a new, optimized core?

I would expect some speed increase from the Palomino core. Can 40% be attained? Well, that seems to be a stretch, but it all depends on how much heat is limiting the current Athlon clock speed.
