DJ, close your eyes so you don't see anything negative. I was simply giving an example - a hundred million dollar one - of things in Dell Ventures to be written off or down substantially. You were questioning whether there was anything to write off, but A.L. Reagan was right - there is.

Does that make Dell a bad company? Of course not. Just means they made some bad investments that will have to be written off.

Also, you are wrong if you think investment write-offs don't impact earnings. Operating earnings, no, but these are real cash losses nonetheless. Not like charging off goodwill or other creatures of accounting rules.
