8 April 1997 at Globalstar's annual meeting, Bernard Schwartz said:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Within six months of this meeting, we expect to launch Globalstar's first satellites. An extraordinary array of resources from many of the most advanced disciplines of modern technology will gather, in October of this year, at Cape Canaveral to support the blast-off of a Delta rocket carrying four Globalstar satellites. The countdown, the fiery exhaust of the rockets, the slow initial reaching upward off the launch pad, the powerful vibration radiating outward, the exhilaration as it takes flight, the wonderment that human beings can and do defy the laws of gravity, that we can through genius, invention and collaboration actually extend our reach to the heavens, and harness this miracle for the welfare of all earth-bound residents of this small planet -- all of this is what our space adventure is about."

I've waited all my life. It is so exciting. This is about so much more than money. Sure, money is one way of representing value and we need it as much as calculations of force, kinetic energy, wave functions, photovoltaics and redox reactions. But this is about so much more than any of those - this is a celebration of humanity and life.

Yet, on the same small planet, a young military man uses the same technologies to blast men women and a creche full of children in retaliation for the attack by Federal officials and the resulting death of men women and children at Waco. And the USA blasted and burned alive quarter of a million men, women and children in two bangs in retaliation for an attack on their military. And Lt William Calley and pals killed a village of men, women and children to rescue them from communism or, like a nazi, in retaliation, though even the nazis usually only killed the men of a town. I expect he has now been executed for crimes against humanity, just as McVeigh should be? No? Oh? How strange!

This is NOT a good way to bring up children. Most other countries are also proponents of these child-raising techniques. Rwanda being a less happy example.

And recently a bunch of young people followed their leader off to the space ship following comet Hale-Bopp wearing the "Just Do It!" symbol which is nauseatingly omnipresent. They were like latter day Mercurys, with wings on their ankles, flying up and being burned by the sun, though they never achieved liftoff and went directly to the crematoria.

How drinking poison to cut off their brain function was supposed to replace all the human intellect, creativity and energy which Globalstar is using to lift us to the stars beats me!

How wonderful to read Bernard's view of what it is all about. I wish there were more like him and all the people who are giving their imaginations and energy to Globalstar.

Hooray for YOU Bernard!

Maurice

May all of our satellites stay flying, shining, beautiful in the sky.

Now I'm going to eat some delicious poached eggs on muffins.
