What does Psychosis mean?

Psychosis simply means that a sufferer has lost touch with reality. Often the imagination and reality
are mixed up making a cocktail of delusional beliefs. The schizophrenic may be defined as a liar by
some people, but he just can't help it. He is not a willful compulsive liar. He is mentally ill!

The way a sufferer perceives is exceptionally disturbed. He can't distinguish between fact and fiction.
If a sufferer has a religious upbringing, for example such as a Christian, he may believe he is a saviour,
or has divine connections, believe angels are communicating with him or he may even believe he is
Jesus returned in the second coming. He may say, "My angels say buy RMBS, NEWP, or ELON or even RNWK."

Psychosis is a symptom of paranoid schizophrenia. The sufferer may alternatively believe that he can
hear radio waves or that he is picking up thoughts from other people. Schizophrenics often believe that
they are psychic or have been to an unfamiliar place before, although in reality they have not. They
may also falsely believe what they heard on the media is what they have heard before, although it may
be fresh news just developed.

A schizophrenic with a psychosis may be labelled psychotic. Psychotic means a person has a psychosis
or that he can't distinguish between his fantasies and reality.

Be Warned!!!! Somebody who has a psychosis or who is psychotic should not be referred to as a
psycho. Psycho means psychopath and this definitely is not schizophrenia.
