SMSC Appoints Ray Newstead as Vice President of Business Development HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2001--Standard Microsystems Corporation (Nasdaq:SMSC - news) announced today that Ray Newstead has been appointed Vice President of Business Development, reporting to Steven Bilodeau, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SMSC.
His responsibilities will include establishing strategic direction to identify and pursue customers and partnerships in new, high growth areas for SMSC's advanced I/O system solutions.

Mr. Newstead has held marketing and executive management positions for more than 20 years in the semiconductor industry. Most recently, he was Vice President and General Manager for the Broadband Network Division of C-Cube Microsystems, responsible for Digital Set-Top Box and Residential Gateway products. Prior to C-Cube Microsystems, Mr. Newstead was Vice President and General Manager of NEC Electronics' Microprocessor and Chipset business unit. Additionally, he has held marketing and business development positions at Integrated Device Technology, Inc., National Semiconductor Corporation and Adaptec, Inc. Mr. Newstead was also Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Technologies International. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science from Rochester Institute of Technology and an Associate Science Electrical Engineering degree from Monroe College. Mr. Newstead will be based in SMSC's San Jose facility.
