"I sure wish everything were as simple as you want it to be."

Me too. I read a book once...really. This book was about the TAO. I don't remember its name or author. The point of TAO according to the author is to purify your nerves in by simplifying life. I have noticed that life's circumstances lend to complexity and that simplification only comes with discipline. I am not a Taoist (don't even know it that's a word) however I do think important things can be simplified to a level that even children can comprehend them.

In the case of responsible action, the simple solution is to establish principles of living that rest on a solid foundation. Then, against all challenges, live for and defend those principles (with your life if need be). I think in the case of tattling we all need to take responsibility and use our own judgement as to whether harm could result by tattling or by refusing to tattle. It comes back to individual judgement as responsibility always should. We have raised wimps over the last couple of decades that are afraid to stand up to or for anything under the threat of having "judged" another persons way of doing things. Now the wimps are adults telling everyone else how to not live responsibly. IMO
