DJ SG Cowen's Reamer: Yahoo Needs Sophisticated Ad Approach

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) may take at least four quarters to
change its online advertising approach from button and banner ads to more
sophisticated formats, said Scott Reamer, an analyst at SG Cowen.

In a CNBC interview Thursday, Reamer said banner ads have proved not to be
working, and Yahoo needs to move to "more sophisticated Internet advertising
like direct marketing and sponsorship."
"How successful the transition will be is anybody's guess," he said.

Reamer downgraded his rating Thursday morning on the troubled Internet portal
to "sell".

Comparing Yahoo's valuation to those of traditional media companies, he said
$17 a share "is even kind of generous."
