That would be the general idea of savings. I'm actually pretty shocked that anyone would consider stock market investments, with their inherent risk, to be savings. Whether or not you wish to consider this as savings though, the enormous level of debt, both personal and corporate, as a relation to "savings", is where the problem lies IMO. Especially as the stock market "savings" are declining.
