John,

It is pretty tough to be "too hard" on someone who was right. <g> I just wish he had presented himself in a more credible manner. We could have saved everyone on SI a bunch of money.

As far as Brocade goes, I don't think they want to be quite as visible yet. I think they are working very hard on their OEM deals, behind the scenes. They may well have learned something from Ancor's mistakes. Another distinct possibility is that things aren't going perfectly, and they might be dealing with some integration issues. (I don't know that, it's just a pleasant thought. <g>)

From a competition standpoint, Ancor can't afford to ignore Brocade, simply because of their connections with Sun and Sequent. While Sun's needs can be met with Class 2/3 switching (with FC/AL), Sequent's can't, at least in the long term. That means that until Sun gets a Fibre Channel switch with FC/AL capability from Brocade, Ancor should still be in the running. And until Sequent gets a Class 1 switch from Brocade, there is still an outside possibility that Ancor will be called on for that. I see Brocade as a worthy competitor in the Class 2/3 area, but not in Class 1.
