We're in a demand-limited market environment. Obviously Intel (and AMD for that matter) will sell their highest speeds first (at whatever price the market demands), and throw away whatever is left.

Either way, the slowest Pentium 4 is being sold at higher prices than the fastest Pentium III. Better to ramp capacity on Pentium 4 if you have excess capacity in the first place.
