Grace: The problem is that CSCO has a broad portfolio of products in all arenas of networking. In contrast, JNPR only makes core routers (and recently introduced a line of smaller edge routers). Larger companies with broad product portfolios feel the economic downturn much sooner but are, IMO, better equipped to deal with and recover from a recessionary environment.

Companies like JNPR, PMCS, CIEN, have great products but a narrower focus, so they may not get hit early, but when they do, it can turn out to be pretty devastating. Witness the plight of SCMR, FDRY, CMTN, etc.

That being said -- I agree with you. JNPR makes a truly outstanding product. CSCO's boxes suck in comparison. I can say this because I have personally evaluated the Cisco GSR and the Junpier M-40 core routers side-by-side and the M40 blew away the doors on the GSR in performance, reliability and usability. It's no wonder that they are eating CSCO's lunch in the core router market.
