UK Group Selects New Solid-state GyroTrac Compass To Upgrade Rescue Capabilities of Lifeboat Crews

The newest GyroTrac™ gyro-stabilized magnetic compass from KVH Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:KVHI), has been selected by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in the United Kingdom for stabilizing modern radar equipment on its fleet of all-weather lifeboats. GyroTrac is being installed as part of a four-year rolling upgrade program on all Severn, Trent and Mersey class lifeboats. By stabilizing radar equipment pictures, the solid-state GyroTrac compass will assist volunteer lifeboat crews in carrying out quick and effective search and rescue operations.

"We believe our recent three-axis, solid-state gyro enhancement has further solidified GyroTrac’s position as the best magnetic compass in the world," said Mads Bjerre-Petersen, managing director of KVH Europe. "With the ability to perform on vessels at higher speeds and faster turn rates than ever before, GyroTrac now has significantly expanded potential applications. This is particularly true in rescue, ferry and law-enforcement markets worldwide where compass accuracy and durability are critical for their high-speed vessels."

The self-calibrating GyroTrac combines user-selectable digital and analog outputs to interface easily with onboard electronics, providing mariners with a single, central heading device that can provide True or Magnetic North data. GyroTrac’s stable accurate heading information is the ideal input for North-up/ARPA radars.

KVH Industries utilizes its proprietary fiber optic, auto calibration and sensor technologies to produce navigation and mobile satellite communications systems for commercial, military, marine and land mobile applications. The company has headquarters in Middletown, Rhode Island, USA, with facilities in Illinois and Florida, and a European sales, marketing and support office in Hoersholm, Denmark.
