Why does it matter if Verizon is GSM or not? I find it hard to believe that there is a lot of roaming traffic between the USA and Europe. VOD's European customers can roam on a GSM network in the US so they don't lose anything and the volume of traffic can't be very large for VOD to subsidize.

I can't imagine that inter-continental roaming is such a big thing that is worth VOD spending billions of dollars to shift alliances.
