Ed, This is a healthy cut. I spoke to a senior employee of CSCO yesterday. This subject came up. what I was told is that CSCO had gotten away from their performance model and were planning to revisit it, cutting the bottom 5% of performers. each employee in this category will be told, have their deficiencies addressed and be given a warning. If improvement is not evident within 90 days or so, they will be let go. seems like a healthy business practice to me. He also said that they were in need of dozens of engineers and there was internal hope that hiring would return to normal this summer. Lastly, CSCO is attempting to foster a much healthier relationship with outside vendors to attract the top 10% of the available engineering force. tp
