Did you notice that on Pricewatch the 1.2 GHz Athlon has the most entries of all Athlons? There are eight pages of 1.2 GHz Athlons, compared to seven for 1.1 and six for 1.0 (and less for those below 1 GHz). This is extremely impressive IMO. Normally you would expect a Gaussian distribution with the peak at around 1 GHz. I bet AMD could release 1.3 GHz and even 1.4 GHz if they wanted but they probably feel comfortable with the current performance level and want to clear old inventory out before releasing higher performance parts.

PS: The P4 distribution peak lies at 1.4 GHz according to the Pricewatch data.
