Texas Jeweler Indicted in Capital Murder Case

Seguin, Texas (March 6, 2001)—In a bizarre case of adding injury to insult, a Texas jeweler was indicted on Monday for capital murder in the shooting death of a New York traveling jewelry salesman who allegedly insulted him, according to Seguin law enforcement officials.
Alejandro Torres, 26, is being held in connection with the murder of Majid "Mike" Zerovabeli, 37, whose body was discovered last Wednesday in a shallow grave at Torres' ranch. Zerovabeli was last seen on the afternoon of Feb. 21 at MRT Jewelers in Seguin, about 35 miles east of San Antonio, where he was on a routine sales call.
"He told us that he was insulted by something that Mr. Zerovabeli said," said Lt. Mike Rosas of the Seguin Police Department. Torres reportedly shot Zerovabeli while he was still in the store and then buried the body.
An arraignment date will be set in the next few weeks but Seguin District Attorney W.C. "Bud" Kirkendall said he did not expect the case to go to trial until at least six to nine months from now.
