Unit sales are a red herring. No other industry in the world counts its sales in units, because the point of an industry is to make money, not to sell widgets. In fact, the PC industry used to publish sales figures in dollars, until 3 years ago when sales began their decline. Of course, Intel investors fell for this scam, and continued bidding up the stock foolishly. In 1990 Intel sold at two times sales with sales growing at 30%. In 1995 Intel sold at 3 times sales with sales growing at 40%. Currently, Intel trades at seven times sales even though Intel's sales are no longer growing.
