Tom, Re: STXN

STXN is kind of a mini-gorilla in its field. They are profitable while most others are running losses, and I think they are the best positioned for large scale manufacturing.

STXN is able to offer wireless broadband with near-fiber capacities. It is a faster and cheaper way of deploying last mile broadband access. While in the U.S. there has been a greater willingness to simply rip up the streets to lay fiberoptic cable, in Europe there is greater reluctance to tear up the city. I'm trying to remember the statistics, but only about 3% of the commercial office buildings in the U.S. have direct fiberoptic hookups. For the rest, STXN's wireless broadband allows them high-capacity broadband that they can own and control themselves. The ownership/control aspect differentiates wireless broadband from leased fiberoptic or cable services.

Another feature is that wireless is much more suitable in remote locations where there is a less fully developed fiberoptic network in place. That's one reason they are selling bigtime in China and other Third World countries. STXN's sales are truly international, a diversity that provides additional stability to their revenues.

IMO, the stock is very cheap. Among the reasons are that margins haven't been great. They are improving, but aren't as high as some tech companies enjoy. But perhaps the main rap against the company has been that their sales are focused on point-to-point (PTP) rather than point-to-multipoint (PTMP) technology. However, so far PTP has proved a more workable and marketable strategy. STXN has thrived while others continue to show losses. I believe STXN is developing PTMP products, but they have not rushed them to market because for now the money is in high reliability and high spectral efficiency products. The stock tends to trade with high volatility. This has worked against STXN during the last year of declining tech markets, but I think it has provided a great value opportunity.

Here is a good summary of the STXN story:
