Let's check the record, Dave. My original post said, word for word: "Last numbers I saw in January showed Gore's popular vote margin somewhere around 1.6 million, based on the California absentees. If I am wrong, please correct me."

Notice I did not state these numbers as fact, but as my recollection ("last numbers I saw") because I added "If I am wrong, please correct me."

Several people did "correct" me. The "official" plurality is around 550,000.

However, I do recall reading somewhere that if all the absentees had been counted in all the states Gore won big ... especially California ... Gore would have picked up substantially more popular votes. Perhaps as many as a million more.

So what I said was neither a lie nor a misrepresentation, because I clearly noted that my numbers might be off.

Having said that, if I ruined the evening of anyone on this thread by stating that the Gore margin was as high as 1.6 million, I am soooooooooo sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrry.
