Technical Update
Defining MPLS
As its name implies, Multiprotocol Label Switching, or MPLS, is essentially a labeling system designed to accommodate multiple protocols. Put another way, the use of MPLS labels enables routers to avoid the processing overhead of delving deeply into each packet and performing complex route lookup operations based upon destination IP addresses.

A Discussion about Intrusion Detection Systems
An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can be compared to an alarm system for your house. A house alarm will be tripped when a motion is detected or a circuit surrounding a door is broken. In an IDS an alarm is tripped when a known attack signature is detected, or there is an unauthorized change in the status of the system, notifying the systems administrator of the intrusion.

Service Provider Solutions
Usage Based Billing
Usage-based billing starts with a solid grounding in standards based SNMP (MIB II and RMON) with important additions specific to the provider environment, such as support for high capacity (HC) counters through the Interfaces MIB (RFC 2233) and support for GetBulk operations. These mechanisms form the backbone for simple, yet robust capabilities of usage-based billing.
