Sudan: Chinese oil firm prospects for oil in central, southern area Text of report by Sudanese TV, in Arabic, on 9 March The Chinese National Petroleum Company has announced the beginning of the process of oil exploration and drilling in Squire 3 and 7 in the area south of Rabak town in White Nile State (Central Sudan). The area also include Upper Nile State (Southern Sudan). The work actually began on 28 February. A press release issued by the company said the process of oil exploration and drilling began in this square after a successful exploration in Squires 1, 2 and 4 in 1996 through combined efforts by the company's other partners in 1999. The Chinese company announced that the gross oil products from the said oilfield amounted to 100m barrels of crude oil by the 23 February. It's worth mentioning that the estimated oil reserve in the area is about 300m barrels and the estimate is expected to rise according to exploration work.
