After millions of years of evolution and over 30 years after Kathy Switzer forced her way into the NYC marathon, you see in the most recent NYC marathon some 30 or 40 elite men's runners lead a pack of about 25 thousand runners. After a few minutes, they are followed by a pack of elite female runners running ahead of the rest of the 25,000 in the field. Is this the best that evolution can do to differentiate the sexes wrt long distance running?
