Takes all kinds eh ... people online might perhaps be divided into those who encourage thinking by others and those who discourage it, who try to convince you into or out of some specific PoS .... the former are more useful imho, and their company is far more enjoyable ... it doesn't take years of study to find and put together a few facts and weave them into a tentative theory on the movement of a stock, it doesn't take a Mensa card to come up with probing and relevant questions on some project - quite often the questions are the most important, when they come new to you, you can feel the mental light bulb click on even when you know the answers are not at hand ... actually overall the intelligent questions have done me more good imho.
Ego - those with tender egos should probably just stay off the net ... if you're not big enough, not secure enough, to open your mind to learn from others as you learn to contribute in a civil and constructive manner, you should just run and hide because you're not going to fare well .... weak egos show up in the guru envy phenomenon - first they set up some poster as a guru figure, then proceed to belly-ache about that status .... well if they'd just wake up and realise that there are no gurus, or perhaps that we are all gurus in some small way some days but largely students at all times - when you stop learning you die - they could maybe relax and accept the concept of community.
I've learned things about stocks from a twelve-year-old kid ... when i first got this computer he used to come over and use it some days until he got his own, he got quite involved in parts of TA like moving average crossovers and Fibonacci numbers in retracements among others, and the way he expressed his thoughts and questions on it, especially the questions, made it all make some sort of sense to me for the first time ... he would have a question or comment on every post on the old TA for Beginners thread ... well he is easily young enough to be my grandson - did it bother me to learn from him - well a little at the time, actually, lol .... but not much, and does that make him a guru, well yes probably, some days.
Then there's the vacuum cleaner salesman type ... they get soon recognised for what they are ... not to worry.
Yes, lovely day ... i'm off to the woods ... cheers, all |
