One thing strange to me is that either the teachers (unlike so many of the students) didn't know the constant tormenting was going on, or they did and didn't do anything to stop it. That is always strange, reading about this sort of thing with no indication of adult intervention in ongoing public scapegoating or humiliating of a select victim.
