Don't be too quick to give up the browser battle.

There are those who believe that MSFT *owns* the desktop, that MSFT fought and won that war. I don't accept that conclusion.

As long as there are multiple players battling for browser market share, the user has a good chance of seeing a future desktop and C/S web standard that is supported by all and not dominated or controlled by one company. After all, if one company controls a standard, it's never quite open. The standard creater is always a step ahead, and that leads to total dominance and stagnation.

NSCP has shown that even the desktop GUI is up for grabs. Although I like MSFT as a software company, I don't want them to own the desktop. They're too stagnated on WIntel platforms. I want desktop vendors to compete for the user dollars. That's what this browser battle is all about. For the first time since Win3.0, MSFT has some real competition for the desktop mindshare, and the results have been (and will continue to be) a bonanza for the desktop user.

I also think the apps are up for grabs. MS Office is only a chapter in a never ending story.
