I bought one last Wednesday.
Simply stated, I am very satisfied with it, and it is extremely well suited to my needs.
For me, it replaces a Vx, an Audiovox CDM9000 (now my wife's), and 2 data cables with a null modem connector.
Essentially its a Vx with the 3.5 OS and no compromises EXCEPT the slightly reduced (in proportion) screen dimensions. The diagonal measurement is 3/4" smaller. Yes this IS a compromise but one I'm willing to put up with because the alternative is a wider, longer, heavier phone. "Tapping" on the keyboard requires a bit of a squint, and in those applications where fonts are controllable I'm using 1 larger font size (so less text displayed).
The scroll button is protected by the numeric keyboard flip so the phone doesn't "chatter" in my pocket like the Vx. Flip closed it's a phone. Flip open its a Vx, except you can dial
Essentially the same gray scale display quality as the Vx which I consider "acceptable" if not great (but better than the older IIIc). Subject to the same glare problems in varying light conditions as the Vx.
Same darned green backlight (which I've become accustomed to, except at dusk or real dim light), but fine at night. Easy to access, just depress the nice large IR button on top of the phone.
It is a fine, full featured CDMA tri-mode phone with voice-dial, voice memo, AND Speakerphone capability.
Set up was a snap. All my Palm apps and settings moved over on the first synch including my ACT!2000 database of 1200 contacts which I use instead of the standard address book.
199 Speed Dial entries available which can be picked directly from the address book on the phone. I set up 75 in less than an hour, after synching over my contacts.
I'm using Browse-it (which replaces ProxiWeb) as a browser on Intellisync (free now like Proxinet but will require a sub) and it is fine. EudoraWeb 2.0 is preinstalled but I have not yet used it.
Battery life seems pretty good as phones go. Not sure about the Palm. I'll probably get a spare travel charger for trips. Travel charger is (removable) part of the synch cradle. It is pretty compact. Also will probably buy a spare battery. The Synch cradle allows charging a spare while charging the "WID".
A portable (cig lighter plug in) hands free car kit and charger is available from Kyocera for $70. I have one on order.
User guide is useful but abbreviated. There is an excellent 275 page manual on PDF with the install CD.
One other downside ... not a Palm connector, so can't use the GoType keyboard I used to pack.
Overall I'm very impressed. This device is not perfect, but it is darned good and suits my needs to a tee.
